Introducing The Beecher Family, Mozambique

Aaron, Sarah, Joseph and Callum Beecher

The Beechers have been serving the Lord as a family in Mozambique since 1998. Their time is divided between running the technical school that they founded in 1999 and home schooling Joseph (aged 9 years) and Callum (aged 7 years).

The technical school is an independent Christian school that provides high-quality free training for young adults in metalworking and carpentry. After completing the two-year training graduates are assisted with gaining employment in local industry. For the graduates of 2009, 20 out of 23 (87%) have already secured permanent employment.

In 2010 the first young lady student was enrolled in the furniture-making/carpentry course; this is an indication of the changing of roles and expectations that is occurring in Mozambique. Most of the teaching and training is undertaken by the Mozambican staff, who have themselves been trained at the school.

Over the years Aaron and Sarah have seen many young people’s lives gain purpose and hope as they have gained practical skills and come to comprehend the father heart of God for each one of them. They are privileged to see the students realise that God has a plan and purpose for each of their lives.

Much of Sarah’s time is taken up with home schooling Joseph and Callum, and without her commitment to the boys’ schooling it would be very difficult for them as a family to serve the Lord in Mozambique. Whilst they sometimes miss the diversity of normal school, they enjoy the freedom of African life.

During the last twelve years Aaron and Sarah have seen a marked improvement in the development of Mozambique in terms of economy, education and healthcare. New industries and businesses have opened locally, and this is a great encouragement as they continue to train young people for employment.
