Introducing Alan Lines, Romania

Alan Lines

Alan has been living and working in Bucharest, Romania, for 13 years. He is originally from Raglan Road Fellowship in Birmingham, where his interest in Romania first began with short trips to the country during the time of Communist rule. He is a freelance teacher of English, living in the Tineretului district and uses this as an opportunity to reach and get to know people with a view to sharing the gospel. He has taught  in various Christian schools and colleges in Bucharest for most of his time there, but now all his working time is spent teaching English to adults. Each year is different.

Alan moved to Bucharest in September ’97 after working for one academic year as a missionary volunteer teacher in a state secondary school in the town of Cahul in the Republic of Moldova. On Sundays he is involved in a local Romanian church in the centre of Bucharest. It is a small church, looking to grow. The leader visited Raglan Road Church a few years ago in order to research for his doctorate, as he also is a lecturer in the national Brethren Bible training institute in Bucharest. Alan preaches or teaches most weekends in churches. He has become involved in a Bible school near Brasov, which will involve his spending blocks of a week or more there to deliver modules in the training course.

In addition, Alan maintains interest in and commitment to the Republic of Moldova, and works alongside teams which visit from his own and other churches in the UK. He also visits churches and contacts to speak in churches and encourage the believers.

Alan is mainly self-supported, although he receives a small amount of support from his church in Birmingham. He also rents out an apartment to Christians in Bucharest.
