Steve and Joy Pegg are based in La Union, a long narrow Province on the West coast of Northern Luzon, Philippines.
Their main focus is a prayer and teaching ministry for the whole body of Christ, and in October 2007 they were able to establish HOPE La Union (House of Prayer and Encouragement) in San Fernando City, the Provincial Capitol.
HOPE is an oasis of calm for busy Christians from any church and for those who are seekers. The facilities include a small library and study area, places for private prayer, regular times of praying the Bible, teaching seminars and a comfy place to sit and talk.
After two years of growth and blessing 2009 brought many challenges and changes. Like other expatriates they felt the firestorm of the recession and faced the possibility of closing down. At the last moment they were offered the use of former church office premises. During the longish period of renovations and decorating the number of visitors inevitably dropped.
After a visit to Australia for a family wedding they experienced severe flooding - four foot of water in the bungalow and thick mud inside and out. Living in an evacuation centre they learnt to weep and rejoice together with a local family in shared adversity.
This deep fellowship, discipleship and mentoring has been something the Lord has continued to develop as they share their lives with key individuals in the village, at church and at HOPE itself.
