Andrew and Angela are from Brixham, Devon. They have two children: Rachel, who lives in Reading and is working; and Christopher, who is on a gap year project with a church in Cardiff before going to Roehampton University.
They are working for Ceylon Every Home for Christ, Sri Lanka, seconded to the South Asia Institute of Theology (SAIT) at Norton Bridge – initially for five years. Andrew is a Baptist minister and recently completed a Masters Degree in theology. Angela is a registered nurse and a trained midwife.
Andrew will be teaching Old Testament studies at SAIT. This is a college for rural pastors and church workers to attend for one week each month; they then return to their churches for the rest of the month. He has also been invited to take up the position of college Principal. He hopes to be able to make regular trips to Batticaloa to teach at Eastern Theological College.
Angela will be running a dispensary and providing health education for the college students and the local community, although this is taking a little time to set up.
They will both be teaching English to the college students, and Angela will also be working in the Montessori school on site.
Sri Lanka has two languages. Andrew and Angela have made the decision to learn the minority language of Tamil, as this is the main language amongst the community where they are working.
